Gus Johnson will want this one back.
With Fox getting a chance to broadcast The Caitlin Clark Show on Saturday night, Johnson let a curse word slip as Clark blocked a shot during Iowa’s game against Maryland.
“Here comes [Shyanne] Sellers. Nice kick inside, great position. No call on the play, as Brinae Alexander had her s–t blocked,” Johnson said during the first quarter in College Park.
Realizing his mistake, Johnson quickly followed up with, “Her shot blocked, excuse me.”
After Clark, 22, rose to a new level of stardom last year, networks have been clamoring to feature her and the Hawkeyes on television this season.
Fox had a dedicated “Caitlin Cam” for the game that it streamed on its TikTok account that focused solely on Clark when Iowa had possession, with the natural sounds of the game instead of the broadcast featuring Johnson.
The third-ranked Hawkeyes defeated Maryland, 93-85, to improve to 21-2 on the season and 10-1 in Big Ten play.
Clark, the reigning player of the year, had 38 points, 12 assists and six rebounds in the victory, making 13 of 29 shots, including 7 of 17 from 3-point range.
The senior leads the nation in points per game (32.4), assists per game (7.9) and 3-pointers made per game (5.3).
Iowa’s only loss in conference play came two weeks ago in overtime at Ohio State, where a fan who stormed the court after the game collided with Clark, who fell down hard but was not hurt.
