Question: Why should the voters elect you? (1994)

Answer: On state, regional, county and local issues, I have demonstrated the leadership to get the job done. I understand our financial, planning, educational, safety and human service needs. I will continue to provide constituents with an independent, well-reasoned, well-informed, effective voice.

Question: What issue inspired you to run for council and how would your presence on the council make a difference? (1990)

Answer: Montgomery County is at a crossroads and the quality of life that attracted many of us here is in jeopardy. We must restore our commitment to balanced, responsible growth and resolve fiscal issues from both the revenue and expenditure sides (including spending affordability limits) to ensure equal attention to community needs and fiscal stability. I have the experience, knowledge and skills to make a difference. In my eight years on the Board of Education, I have worked effectively with communities, staff and other elected officials to set priorities and reach consensus on difficult issues. I have a reputation for doing my homework, asking tough questions and making independent decisions. My statewide and regional contacts will be helpful as we grapple with transportation, environmental and funding issues. But most important, my roots are in the community. I know the issues, am action-oriented and would be a community-focused council member.
