The FA have invited Sven-Goran Eriksson to England’s friendly international against Brazil in March following his revelation that he is suffering from terminal cancer.
The former England manager left the football world shocked and saddened earlier this month by disclosing that he may only have months to live after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Eriksson led England in their World Cup second-round defeat to Brazil in Japan in 2002, which was memorably settled by Ronaldinho chipping David Seaman with an audacious free-kick.
The Swede has yet to respond to the invitation, but the FA are hopeful that Eriksson will attend Brazil’s visit to Wembley as guest of honour if he is fit enough to travel.
In another example of the widespread warmth felt towards Eriksson, Jurgen Klopp last week invited him to Liverpool to conduct a training session following an interview in which the 75-year-old revealed that one of his few regrets in life was not having managed the Anfield club.

BEES LOOK TO REPEAT TRICK
Brentford are actively scouring the transfer market for centre-forwards in a clear indication that they expect Ivan Toney to leave the club at the end of the season.
In a move typical of the club’s forensic approach under owner Matthew Benham Brentford’s recruitment department are monitoring strikers in the lower divisions in the hope of unearthing another raw diamond like Toney, who had only played in League One and League Two when he signed for them four years ago, but is now one of the most feared players in the Premier League and an England international.

PUZZLING ABSENCES AS HAYES MADE HISTORY
Chelsea’s senior leadership were conspicuous by their absence when Emma Hayes made history by becoming the first woman to receive the annual Tribute Award from Football Writers’ Association earlier this week.
Long-serving club secretary David Barnard and non-executive director Barbara Charone were the only Chelsea Board members present at Sunday night’s dinner at the Landmark Hotel, with chairman Todd Boehly, chief executive Chris Jurasek and sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Lawrence Stewart all absent.
Hayes was supported by all of her backroom staff and several former executives from the Roman Abramovich regime at Chelsea, as well as a large contingent from her previous club Arsenal, where she worked as a coach under former manager Vic Akers.
Hayes is leaving Chelsea after 12 years at the end of the season for a new job running the USA national team, with Mail Sport revealing last November that the club’s owners were unhappy at failing to tie their iconic manager down to a long-term contract.

RECORD PENDING FOR GUNNERS
Arsenal are on course to sell out the Emirates Stadium for their Women’s Super League clash with Manchester United next month in what would be another record attendance for the competition.
A WSL-record 59,042 fans watched Arsenal beat Chelsea 4-1 at the Emirates last month, and with around 55,000 tickets having been sold for the United game already the club are confident of achieving a 61,000 capacity crowd.
Arsenal this week announced that their WSL game against Leicester in April has been moved from the 4500-capacity Meadow Park, meaning that more than half of Jonas Eidevall’s side’s league fixtures this season will take place at the Emirates.
